DCS Superintendent Leads the Way in Early Childhood Education

Superintendent of Dundee Community Schools, Edward Manuszak, represented the community and state of Michigan as a leader in Early Childhood Education and Learning and was invited to help facilitate this national meeting that brought together the Office of Head Start and 13 school districts from 11 states to discuss how to transition our youngest learners from Head Start classrooms to Public Schools Kindergarten classrooms.  90% of a child's brain develops by the time that they are five years old so it is imperative that we work together with agencies to have the most equipped and prepared students ready to enter our schools.  Mr. Manuszak gave a update about the work that is occurring in Dundee Community Schools and from the work he leads nationally as co-chair of the AASA Early Learning Cohort team.

Why Should Early Learning Matter Most?

Superintendent Edward Manuszak is a featured author in the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrator's (MASA's) quarterly magazine, Leader.  In his article, "Why Should Early Learning Matter Most?" Mr. Manuszak shares how elementary principals across the nation report a striking lack confidence in their knowledge of early childhood education (defined as birth through age 8), and that superintendents' knowledge is likely even less.  Yet, the most growth development occurs in a child's brain from birth through age 5.  Mr. Manuszak goes on to share how Dundee is collaborating with districts across Monroe County to connect with young families to ensure quality learning opportunities are available prior to enrolling in kindergarten.
